Andrews Software, Inc. Supports RIM Industry at NFPA Conference

Untested and unsubstantiated changes to NFPA 13 could increase new and existing building costs and reduce storage revenue by as much as 10-15%

Cleveland, Ohio - June 16, 2006 Andrews Software’s corporate tagline, “Proven solutions. Working for you.” is more than just a tagline – it is part of our corporate philosophy. Not only does it apply to software solutions developed and enhanced for our clients, it also applies to our active involvement in the records and information management services (RIMS) industry. The Andrews team put this philosophy into action and went to “work for you” during the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Annual Conference held last week in Orlando, Florida.

As noted by PRISM Executive Director Jim Booth in recent PRISM listserv postings, PRISM member representatives played a critical role last week to affect the modifications proposed to NFPA 13.  As NFPA members, ASI, along with nearly 350 PRISM representatives, placed their votes to affect multiple motions proposed to NFPA 13 on June 7th at the NFPA Annual Conference.

What this means most immediately for you and the other members of the records and information management services industry is that the proposed changes, which would have adversely affected our industry in many ways (most significantly by decreasing density by 10-15%), will not become part of NFPA 13 today. However, we are not out of the woods yet. The Technical Committee for Sprinkler Systems Discharge Criteria (TC) is expected to vote on whether or not they agree with the floor vote. As Jim also noted in his postings, it is anticipated that the TC will not agree, at which point Larry Varn of Sullivan and Worcester, on behalf of PRISM International, will generate an automatic appeal to the Standards Council. Members will be asked to sign this appeal.

ASI is proud to have placed two votes supporting the RIM services industry’s initiatives during last week’s NFPA meeting in Orlando. We look forward to continuing our active involvement as the issues surrounding NFPA 13 are decided.  We’ll keep you posted.
